Inter County Championships and England Trials 2020

A great weekend in Yarmouth for Kent pool with our county represented in five categories

Inter County Championships

An early start for the u23 teams playing on Thursday with the Kent team making it it to the semi-finals but unfortunately losing out 11:5 to Warwickshire.

Playing late on Friday evening didn’t work out well for the Men’s B team who lost narrowly to Devon 23:20 in the Intercounty Finals. Moving into the first round of the cup they won their first but match but couldn’t keep the run going losing 23:17 to Cornwall in the Quarter Finals.

Our Men’s A team made a good start beating Northamptonshire, but fell foul of a strong Norfolk team who pushed them out of the main event and into the Cup Quarter Final.

Our best performances came from the Ladies and Junior teams. The Ladies didn’t get off to the best of starts with a loss to Devon in the first round of the main event but made it all the way to the final of the Cup losing out to Cheshire in the final 23:19.

The Junior team had a great tournament making it all the way to the final, but came up against last years champions who proved far too strong and secured their second successive title winning 23:8. Still a great result for our young team who have a lot of potential for the future.

England Trials

Kent was well represented across the England Trials with nine players across the various categories.

In the Men’s section A team players Mitch Standen, Sean Kirby and Adam Bassoo competed for one of the eight places available. Adam had a great day winning 6/6 to qualify first.

We also had three players int he Ladies section, Karen Riches, Jan Spinner and Mel Clements with Mel making it into the squad.

Another three in the u23s with Kian Ballard, Steve Ritchie and Jasper Simmonds with Jasper and Steve qualifying.

Well done to all those who qualified and good luck when representing your country.
